Tuesday, September 9, 2014 - The Scotland Saga

The opening day did not dawn auspiciously; Deb worked in her home office until 4:00 AM, crawled into bed for 2 1/2 hours and then back out to shower and start the long day.  A typical Covert trip start - we were potting last minute flowers on the deck before Jeff & Glenda arrived at the stroke of 8:30 to haul us to the airport for departure.

At the airport, the parking garage was full until we got to the top floor, which is not covered parking. So, 10 days at covered rates in an uncovered location. 1st flight is off to Chicago O'Hare, where we had lunch of pizza and salad at the Wolfgang Puck restaurant - pricey but delicious.  Then a connection to Newark; due to the long layover, we discovered a place called Vino Volo, a wine bar where we made a contribution to the local economy.  We take off from Newark at 8:35 PM, arriving in Edinburgh on Wednesday morning at 7:35 AM.  Actual flight time was only 6 hours 35 minutes, but seemed much longer.

We then cleared customs and hailed a taxi into Edinburgh proper - about 45 minutes and 30£ later we arrived at the Thistle Residences in Lister Square, within walking distance of the old city center.  Rooms not ready until noon, so we head out to walk and shake cobwebs off - can't go to sleep as it will ruin the circadian rhythm!
