Phoenix Journey - 2018 - Thursday, January 25, 2018

46F this morning in Anthem.  Again, expected sunshine and a high of 70F.  Our last day of true vacation before we head to the northern climes tomorrow.  Today an easy day.  Dell and I walked to the local grocery store after breakfast to re-supply with some eggs, sausage and bananas.  A quick 1.6 mile stroll in beautiful weather.

After some lounging and reading, Dell prepared a tuna salad for lunch and then a quick trip for Deb and I to the grocery store to pick up supplies for our journey. Then into the red Ford for an afternoon trip.

We traveled some 30 minutes to Carefree AZ, on the eastern side of Phoenix.  There we toured a display of some of the most amazing cactus and other desert vegetation.  Although well laid out, signs with species names were erratically displayed, leaving a taste for more information in this gardener's mouth.  But very intriguing.

We walked among the plantings, stepped under the waterfall-like fountain, and lounged in the comfortable chairs in front of the outdoor fireplace.  Quite relaxing. There were also a number of shops surrounding the central plaza, and we did our bit to prop up the economy.

We then traveled a few blocks to a restaurant to meet up with our mutual friends Frank and Jan Hrasky for drinks and a Mexican meal.  Frank and Jan have travelled to the area from their Omaha home for over ten years, leaving the day after Christmas and returning the first of April. Frank does his best to pump up the golf economy while they are here.

Again an enjoyable evening.  We returned, talked for a bit and were in bed well before 10:00. Such is the life of the over-the-hill gang.
